Welcome colleagues!

As you all well know, the turmoil and challenges of the recent economic downturn resulted in the closure of our 2009 District VIII Conference venue last summer. In order to preserve and ensure the quality of the 34th Annual Meeting of District members it was postponed to 2010. I am pleased to report that plans have been finalized for June 17-20, 2010, at the Grove Hotel in downtown Boise, Idaho.

The theme of "Tracking New Trends in Neonatal Subspecialties" has been maintained from the 2009 agenda, as has the panel of excellent speakers assembled to provide up-to-date and practical information regarding orthopedics, cardiovascular imaging and intervention, dermatology, cardiology, nutrition, and other specialties that are critical in caring for our tiny patients. An optional Coding Conference will provide current information regarding the latest in appropriate billing practices, and the Keynote address will focus on the potential impact of Health Care Reform on Neonatology practice.

The conference is ideally suited for neonatologists, pediatricians, neonatal nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, respiratory therapists, fellows, residents, and students caring for fragile newborns. More than 100 health professionals routinely attend these family-friendly conferences, providing not only educational opportunities but also time for networking and recreation. The Fellows Conference and Advanced Practice Session each provide valuable interactions regarding job opportunities and discipline-specific learning environments.

Boise has made a name for itself as one of America's most livable cities. Numerous museums, festivals, theaters, and outdoor activities give this hometown city a hip and metropolitan feel despite its small size. Outdoor recreation is abundant with rafting, hiking, fly fishing, and mountain biking all less than an hour's drive away. Shopping and great restaurants surround the meeting venue and as with all District VIII conferences, family members are encouraged to attend. A coordinated Friday night Shakespeare festival dinner and a Saturday whitewater rafting trip should provide ample relaxation following the excellent presentations of the day.

It is my hope that the unexpected cancellation of the 2009 Conference encourages and invigorates members to be even more active and involved this year, and we anticipate a fabulous attendance at the 2010 event. Can't wait to see you all there!

Sincerely,

Scott A. Snyder, MD
